WITH MINIMAL FANFARE Sony Ericsson unveiled its latest addition to its Xperia range with the launch of the X2 at an event in London this week.
We had a chance to have a quick play with the device and here are our very first impressions.
The phone is the successor to the X1, which pioneered the Xperia range and is aimed at high-end business users.
Weighing in at 115g, the device is solidly built but, as with all phones using a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, it might be a bit bulky for some.
The X2 features a 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen with 480×800 resolution. There is just 110MB of onboard storage available internally, but it ships with a 4GB microSD card.
The X2 runs Windows Mobile 6.5 with Sony Ericsson’s Panel interface overlaid. First impressions suggest that this is where the X2 really falls short of the mark, being unresponsive, slow and clunky.
That said, Sony Ericsson’s PR spinners did stress that we were handling a pre-release version of the software, so we’ll reserve judgement until we get our hands on a proper review unit running the final release
