Two of the UK’s largest independent mobile phone retailers have stopped all sales of the Sony Ericsson Satio smartphone, apparently due to unusually high levels of returns from customers. Both Phones 4U and Carphone Warehouse have stopped sales, although operator owned retailers are still selling the handset.

In a statement, Sony Ericsson said: “Sony Ericsson confirms that it has been made aware that a small number of consumers have experienced software issues with its Satio handset when using certain applications.” adding that “Sony Ericsson is giving this matter its utmost priority and is working toward solving it as soon as possible.”
Both retailers expect to restart sales as soon as the problem has been resolved.
Carolina Milanesi, lead mobile phone analyst at Garner, told The Telegraph newspaer: “It’s a really big blow. Sony Ericsson was counting on the Satio to boost its Christmas sales.”
However, the UK trade magazine Mobile Today also reported that the experience with the handset and upset customers has worried shop staff who are now reluctant to promote other Sony Ericsson handsets.
