Potter flick doesn’t give a fright

Not all, but at least some feel that the latest Harry Potter movie is still scary. Even before Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released, many parents speculated that the scenes in the movie could be scary for their little ones.

Movie review websites had pointed out that the movie should have been given a 12A rating rather than a PG. Many websites even warned parents that if their child carries the horror of the movie to a nightmare, then they should think twice before buying the tickets.

However, there was a mixed response after the movie’s release. While many parents did not find it too inappropriate for the little ones, another bunch agreed that certain content of the flick contained scary scenes but were just like any other fantasy thriller.

For 14-year-old Prabal Shetty, the movie was scary in many parts. “Voldemort is scary throughout,” he said.

“The lady turning into the snake is so realistic, it got my brother and I quite scared,” he said, adding that the movie might be frightening for kids younger than him.

Rohini Bilagi was quite scared after watching the movie. “The second half is hair-raising, but nonetheless a great adventure,” said the 13-year-old student from Delhi Public School, North.
Her friend, Minisha Sudhir said, “It was after the break that the movie turned out to be frightening.”

“It is the frightening scenes that add to the excitement in the movie. My son had a thrilling experience and we will probably watch it once more,” said Aruna Ram, who had come along with her son to watch the film.

Thirteen-year-old Rohan was excited after watching the movie and did not find it scary. His mother Anitha D’Sa echoed a similar response. She said the movie did not contain any disturbing contents.

“It was just fine. He wants to watch the movie again and I do not have problems with that,” she said.

However, the third group was those who were disappointed about the sketchy nature of the movie. “The book is so much more eerie and exciting than the film,” said a marketing professional who had high expectations from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

“I didn’t find it a bit scary, I do not know what the hype about it is,” wondered 17-year-old Sidharth Kamat, who felt the movie was overrated.
