The divide between console and PC gaming grows slimmer with each passing generation. With their 3D, HDMI and Blu Ray, console gamers are hardly starved for quality, but it is a level that could well and truly be surpassed on PC if studios stopping building games with the limitations of consoles in mind. At least according to Cevat Yerli.
If anyone should know about pushing the limits of the PC it’s Yerli. As the Founder and CEO of Crytek, Yerli’s studio is notorious for releasing titles intended to stress even the most powerful contemporary rig.
Yerli doesn’t hate console gaming, Crysis 2 will be launching on PS3 and Xbox 360 this time around afterall. Yerli simply feels that the dominance of the console market has “limited” the “creative expression” of studios, Crytek included.
The studios aren’t solely to blame however. Blame should equally be placed upon the consumer if Yerli is to be believed:
It’s a double edged sword however. Nowadays most people have grown to acknowledge that multi-format games won’t be significantly better on PC in most cases (and sometimes even worse!) and therefore have begun to opt for console versions for mere convenience and comfort.
I for one am interested to see if Yerli will back up his own claims with the multi-format release of Crysis 2 in March.
