Killzone 3 will have 18-rating and 70 minutes of cut scenes

Killzone 3 earned its 18 rating for its ‘strong bloody violence and strong language’, according to the details published by the BBFC – but they also reveal that the game passed with no cuts being required.

But the classification also revealed that the game’s ‘linear elements’ (i.e. the cut scenes) run to a total of 70 minutes – rather a long time for any game, and especially for a series that’s not exactly noted for its strong storylines or characterisation. Killzone 2, by contrast, featured only 25 minutes of cut scenes.

Possibly the overload of cut scenes are a way to show off the game’s strong 3D support – it’s set to be one of the key titles in Sony’s push towards 3D gaming.

As we said in our Killzone 3 preview last July, the 3D element works very well – adding both stylish touches and a useful sense of space. However, the game itself looks unlikely to change many players’ opinions of the Killzone series as a whole.
